How to Add Animations to Listimia (The Smart Way)

3 min read

Listimia doesn’t ship with built-in animations. Here’s why, and the best lightweight way to add them yourself.

Why Doesn’t Listimia Include Built-In Animations?

The short answer: because we kept Listimia intentionally lightweight. Listimia is a performance-focused directory theme. Adding built-in animation libraries would increase CSS size, JavaScript payload, render time, and overall complexity. Most importantly, it would affect speed, and speed is the one thing we refuse to compromise on.

Instead of bloating the theme with visual effects that not everyone needs, we made a conscious decision: keep Listimia clean, keep it fast, and let users decide whether animations are right for their project. If you want them, you can add them in a way that stays lightweight and in control.

Recommended Plugin: Animations for Blocks

The plugin we recommend is Animations for Blocks, free, built specifically for the WordPress Block Editor, and requiring no heavy visual builder. It adds animation controls directly inside each block’s sidebar settings, which keeps everything native and clean. It is lightweight by design and works perfectly with FSE themes like Listimia.

No shortcodes. No custom code. No external builder. Everything lives inside the editor, exactly how Listimia is designed to work.

How to Add Animations to Listimia

Step 1: Install the Plugin

Go to Dashboard > Plugins > Add New, search for “Animations for Blocks”, then install and activate. No complicated setup required.

Step 2: Select Any Block

Open any page in the editor and click on a block: a Group, Column, Cover, Grid section, or Featured Listings block all work. You will immediately see animation options appear in the block’s sidebar panel.

Step 3: Choose Your Effect

Pick from Fade In, Fade Up, Slide, Zoom, and configure delay and duration, all directly inside the editor, with no shortcodes, no custom code, and no external builder needed.

Where to Use Animations in Listimia

Since Listimia is a directory theme, animations should be subtle and strategic. The goal is to add polish, not distraction. Performance and usability always come first.

Great sections to animate

Hero section, category grids, featured listings, testimonials, call-to-action sections, and pricing tables are all ideal candidates. These are visually prominent and static, so a gentle entrance animation adds polish without any performance cost.

Avoid animating these

Filters, search results, every individual listing card, and dashboard interfaces should stay animation-free. These elements update dynamically and are interaction-heavy; animating them creates visual noise and makes the interface feel slower than it actually is.

Why We Still Don’t Bundle Animations Inside Listimia

Directory websites are heavier than blogs by default. They handle listings, search, filtering, user submissions, and dynamic data all at once. Bundling animation libraries into the theme on top of all that would affect Core Web Vitals, increase loading time, force design decisions onto users who never asked for them, and add dead code for everyone who simply doesn’t need it.

Listimia is built to stay lean and scalable. Animations are optional, and that’s the right architectural decision.
